Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It is widely used in the treatment of hypertension. By blocking the binding of angiotensin II to its receptors, it relaxes blood vessels, reduces peripheral vascular resistance, and thereby helps to lower blood pressure. It can also be used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy.
